Tuesday Night Throwdown, aka TNT, is back for 2026!

Break out your best costume and "brush" up on your novelty climbing skills (yes — plungers, teeter totters, lassos and the like). It's time again for The Hive Winnipeg's annual community climbing competition: Tuesday Night Throwdown!

Join us July 28th for an evening of fun, friends, climbing andof course—novelty climbs! TNT is a friendly format community competition & fundraiser for all levels of climbers, ages 13 and up. There is no finals and no competition experience is necessary! You just need a good attitude, some chalk and your climbing shoes. This year's theme is "Saturday Morning Cartoons and Cereal" so get ready to embrace your inner child again with a trip down nostalgia lane while trying your best to climb as many of our novelty (and regular) climbs as you can!

Community beyond our climbing walls is important, so TNT is also a fundraiser for the Climbing Association of Manitoba (CAM), with $5 from every registration donated to this awesome org! They're helping to grow and legitimize the competitive stream of climbing in Manitoba, which helps local athletes achieve their climbing dreams! We are also super excited that this year after the competition ,while we wait for all the scores to be tallied up, ACC-MB (Alpine Club of Canada) will also be giving a short presentation about all the awesome stuff they do to support and extend the climbing community in Manitoba.

We highly encourage you and your friends to dress up in a creative, fun (and appropriate) costume! You're welcome to come as a single individual in a costume, however, only team costumes consisting of at least 3 people will be eligible to win the costume contest! Find some friends and get brainstorming! Just like last year, we will have prizes based on the People's Choice and a Judges Panel for the costume contest. See below the costume contest rules for further info on qualifying costumes; as much as we like glitter and body paint, it can be a real pain to clean off climbing holds and mats so please leave that at home!

We'll have prizes from some great local sponsors including Rogue Vinyasa, Saunic, Fete Ice Cream, Natural Cycle Works, Across The Board Game Cafe, and more! Our local legend DJs will also be on site to keep the energy up and the tunes flowing all night long!

Register today online using the link at the bottom, or see the front desk staff!

Each category will have awards for climbers in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, in gender diverse, female, and male gender categories.

Masters

Masters is a "sub-category" - everyone who is 40+ will automatically be entered into the Masters Category as well as their main category.

Team Costume Contest

Best Costume by Team (3-5 people) | People's Choice and Judges' Panel

  • Please think of safety and have consideration for others when planning your costume
  • Nothing that could get you caught up on the wall or might cause damage to you or someone else when landing.
  • No body paint or glitter which could sweat off and end up all over the mats or other people.
  • Nothing offensive or insulting to others.
  • The regular dress code is still in effect.

Novelty Climbs

The majority of the climbs at TNT are 'regular' problems, freshly set for the comp, but there will also be a handful of novelty climbs! In the past, this has included: a teeter-totter and slide on the wall, a “canoe” path on rollers, rope swings, mario kart tunnels, plungers on the wall, and other absurdities! Trying these out is arguably the best and silliest part of the comp. One night only, you do NOT want to miss these!

How Scoring Works (not standard format)

  • A fellow competitor must witness your send, start to finish, and initial beside the problem number on your scorecard.
  • Each problem is worth 1000 points divided by the number of sends in the category.
  • You have unlimited attempts to send your problems.
  • Scorecards must be turned in to the desk by the end of the climbing slot.
