Hive North Shore Renovation
We are excited to share that in 2027 we will be renovating the main climbing walls at The Hive North Shore! We plan to do the work during the least busy months, May through August or September.
Why we’re renovating:
- We want to provide our staff and community with the best experience possible
- The North shore wall texture is not holding up as anticipated, requiring excessive patching
- The space is not meeting the needs of our growing community; we need to accommodate more climbers on the wall
- A renovation will provide a better setting experience, space for more boulders, & greater opportunities for creative sets
What to expect:
- At minimum, the main gym will be closed starting May 1 2027 through the end of summer (2027)
- We aim to reopen September/October, Fall 2027 with brand new walls by Dreamwall & So iLL!
- Members will be offered a FREE freeze while we’re closed, retain loyalty rates, and be provided clear details by early 2027 on how to proceed with their preferred next steps. Annual members will have a special 'countdown membership' option if for some reason they don't want to freeze and extend. Members looking to review the relevant membership policies can view those here.
- Communication will be as transparent, clear and timely as possible.
What’s next?
- Countdown Memberships: To provide an alternative to the full annual membership for those who mostly or exclusively use the North Shore, we’ll be offering a “Countdown” Annual membership*, prorated for the duration from purchase to closure on May 1, 2027.
- Your Feedback: We’re asking you for feedback to help us understand how we can best serve the majority of our regular climbers during this time, via a short survey. This includes considerations on the mezzanine level – tech lab, fitness area, lounge and yoga.
- Wall Design: We’re planning out the optimal wall design with Dreamwall x SoiLL.

- Purchaseable from May 1, 2026—February 28, 2027 only in person at The Hive North Shore
- The price of an Annual Membership, automatically prorated from date of purchase
- I.e. Purchase on June 14 = $1171.14; Purchase on Aug 25, $911.69 (regular $1330)
- As Bouldering membership, valid to climb at any Hive bouldering location; Ultimate also available
- Expires end of day, April 30, 2027
- Member Loyalty Rate (prepaid) discount still applies

We are really excited to share, and will do so as soon as the final design is confirmed. With construction a year away, we are taking the time to explore the best possible layout for more climbing and the best overall experience for everyone!

Why North Shore, and not Vancouver, as the elder gym?
The walls at Canada's first all-bouldering gym are holding up incredibly well for their age. Repair and maintenance needs have been minimal, and very effective. Also, any adjustment to the walls there would mean less climbing space.
